HULA FOR ALL AGES

ALOHA and Welcome

Na Kamali'i / Wahine Nani o Lahaina

"The beautiful children / women of Lahaina",

extends to all of you a very warm greeting of Aloha!

Thank you (mahalo) for visiting us. It is our pleasure to introduce to you, our family (ohana) and special services available by Jan Kealani Kitaguchi.

Jan Kealani w/Keikis. Maui Private Hula Classes. Maui Hula School in Lahaina, Maui

When on Maui, book private or group Hula Class with Lahaina native Jan Kealani Kitaguchi.

Kumu (teacher) Jan says about hula, “The term hula refers to movement and gestures. Hula, however, cannot be performed without mele or song, the most important component. Mele are records of cultural information, ranging from sacred mele pule and mele inoa to topical mele ho’oipoipo, or love song, and mele ‘aina, a song praising the land.”

Hula gestures are interpretations of the song, giving clues about the meaning of the stories contained within the music.

Since 1990, we have been bringing our joy of the Hawaiian culture and traditions through songs and dances to many visitors worldwide and within our local community, here in Maui, Hawaii. The hula dance expresses a story telling through the graceful motions of the hands, body, and feet. In Hawaiian history, nothing was written down as there was no written language. Memorize our history by doing the hula and by keeping our people alive, in your hearts. This is especially important by teaching hula to the children which is portrayed through Na Kamali'i Nani o Lahaina by Kealani.

"Hula is the language of the heart and therefore the heartbeat of the Hawaiian people." ~King David (Kawika) La'amea Kalakaua.

May we enlighten your lives through the spirit of Aloha!

Under the direction of Jan Kealani Kitaguchi, our children and adult members of our halau (school) learn these teachings along with the expression through dance, discipline, building self-confidence and the appreciation of their Hawaiian heritage.

Mahalo nui loa (Thank you very much) for visiting, as we share a very special experience through magical Hawaii and also a journey with our Polynesian island families.
